Satte lies in the north-east corner of Saitama Prefecture, on the low, flat land where several of the Kantō Plain's rivers run close together. The Tone and the Edo flow just to the east, and smaller rivers and irrigation channels cross the city itself. From above, Satte is a mix of rice fields, residential blocks and raised embankments that form long, gently curving lines across the landscape.
In the Edo period Satte was a post town on the Nikkō Kaidō, the highway between Edo and the shrines at Nikkō, and the old route can still be traced through the centre near the Tobu line station. Around that historic spine, the modern town spreads outward into neighbourhoods and industrial parks, many of them linked to the Ken-Ō Expressway, which passes through the city.
Satte is best known for Gongendō Park, where a long embankment is planted with around a thousand cherry trees that bloom in spring alongside fields of yellow rapeseed.
