Senden lies in the Coesfeld district of the Münsterland, southwest of Münster, in the flat and green landscape typical of the region. Here the map draws no hills. The shape comes from water and farmland: a straight canal, a small meandering river and a patchwork of fields and hedgerows reaching up to the edge of the houses.
The Dortmund-Ems Canal cuts through the municipality in a long, confident line, and the Stever winds much more loosely nearby. The two make a clear contrast on paper, one engineered, one natural. The compact centre sits close to the Stever, with newer residential streets spreading out in curving estates.
Senden is known for its moated castle, Burg Senden, a reminder of how common these water-ringed manor houses are across the Münsterland. A Senden map poster shows the canal, the river and the small centre between them, and the quiet rural pattern around them that cyclists here know well.
