Hilltop centre
The historic centre fills the top of the hill with narrow, winding streets. On the map it forms a compact knot of lines set high above the plain.

El mapa
Sezze Map Poster & Print
Sezze is a town in the province of Latina in southern Lazio. It stands on a hill at the edge of the Monti Lepini, overlooking the Agro Pontino, the plain created when the Pontine Marshes were drained in the twentieth century. The town descends from the ancient Setia, and sections of its old polygonal stone walls still survive.
On a map the old centre is a tight cluster of streets following the shape of the hilltop. The roads leaving it switch back and forth to descend the steep slope. Below lies the plain, crossed by straight canals and roads laid out during the reclamation, and the contrast between the two landscapes is striking.
A Sezze map poster shows both halves of that setting, the curving, dense town on its hill and the geometric plain spreading out beneath it. The combination gives the print an unusual structure. The medieval pattern sits in one part of the frame and the rational grid of the reclaimed land in the other.

Ancient walls
Stretches of polygonal masonry from the ancient town of Setia survive around Sezze. They are among the most notable remains of its long past.
Pontine plain
Below the town lies the Agro Pontino, the drained former marshland. Its straight canals and roads form a regular grid across the lower part of the frame.
