Tunga river
The river curves past the city in a wide, flowing line. It is the map's main natural feature and separates the old core from the land across the water.

El mapa
Shivamogga Map Poster & Print
Shivamogga lies on the Tunga river in central Karnataka, where the dry Deccan plain begins to give way to the wetter, forested hills of the Malnad region. From above, the town forms a compact mass of streets beside the river. Bridges connect it to the far bank, and roads fan out toward the Western Ghats.
The older commercial quarters are tightly packed with narrow lanes and busy market streets, while newer layouts extend outward in more open, regular blocks. Around the edges, paddy fields, areca nut plantations and scattered villages appear as a looser network of lanes. The areca trade has long been one of the mainstays of the local economy.
Not far downstream, the Tunga meets the Bhadra at Koodli to form the Tungabhadra, one of the major rivers of southern India. The district is also home to Jog Falls on the Sharavathi. A Shivamogga map poster frames the city itself, its river and its streets, as the starting point for that wider landscape.

Old market core
Near the centre, narrow lanes and closely spaced streets form a dense pattern. It reflects the city's long role as a trading town for the surrounding hills.
Plantation fringe
Toward the edges, the tight grid dissolves into lanes running between fields and areca plantations. This gives the composition a soft, open border.
