Shuanglong is a town in southern Sichuan, in the hilly country south of the Yangtze around Yibin. This part of the province is not flat. Low, rounded hills rise one after another, and small valleys, streams and paddy fields fill the land between them. On a map this relief is visible in the way everything bends.
The town's built-up area is compact, following the valley floor and the main road through it. Streets are short and closely packed, and newer buildings extend along the road. Outside the town, narrow roads climb and wind over the hills, and terraced fields show as thin, curved strips fitted to the contours.
A Shuanglong map poster is less about a particular landmark and more about this landscape of hills and cultivation, which characterises so much of rural Sichuan. Roads leave the valley and wind over the surrounding hills in loose curves. They connect scattered villages and give the edges of the map a flowing quality.
