Shūsh Map Poster
Shūsh stands on the site of Susa, one of the oldest continuously settled places in the world and a capital of the Achaemenid kings. From above, the town has an unusual shape. Its present-day streets curve around a group of large archaeological mounds, which stay open as blank ground in the middle of the urban fabric.
The Shaur River runs along the western side of the old site, and the wider Karkheh flows further west across the plain. Around the town, irrigated fields form a flat patchwork of rectangles. The streets are mostly low and regular and gather around the Tomb of Daniel, whose conical dome is a well-known local landmark.
A Shūsh map poster sets the geometry of a working town beside the outline of an ancient royal city. Susa has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015, and the remains of the Palace of Darius on the Apadana mound are among its best-known features.

A narrow river runs past the western edge of the archaeological site. It is a thin line of water that has stayed beside the settlement through its long history.

The shrine traditionally identified as the tomb of the prophet Daniel sits near the river. The streets of the older town converge on it.
