South Tangerang Map Poster & Print
South Tangerang, or Tangerang Selatan, became a separate city in 2008, carved from Tangerang Regency on the south-western edge of Greater Jakarta. It has no single historic centre. Instead, the map shows a mosaic of distinct pieces, each with its own street logic, stitched together by arterial roads and the toll routes that carry commuters into the capital.
The contrast between those pieces is what makes the city interesting from above. Large master-planned townships such as BSD City and Bintaro Jaya appear as orderly systems of looping boulevards, cul-de-sacs and landscaped clusters. Around and between them, older kampung neighbourhoods keep a much finer and more irregular texture of narrow lanes winding between houses and small plots.
Water appears in small doses: a scattering of situ, the shallow lakes that dot the area, and the Cisadane River along the western side. Campuses, golf courses and parks break up the built area. Small lakes, known locally as situ, are scattered across the city and appear as soft, rounded shapes among the streets, including the well-known Situ Gintung near Ciputat.

The Jakarta–Serpong toll road and other expressways cut long diagonal lines across the map, linking the townships with the capital and giving the composition its main structure.
