Streamwood is a village in the northwest suburbs of Chicago, in Cook County near Elgin. It was incorporated in 1957 and grew during the postwar suburban expansion, and the map shows it clearly. Residential streets curve and loop in the subdivision patterns of the period, with cul-de-sacs, crescents and short connecting roads filling the space between larger arterial routes.
The village takes its name from the streams and woods of the area, and green space still shapes the plan. Poplar Creek winds through the region, and nearby forest preserves leave large open areas on the map that break up the built pattern. Major roads divide Streamwood into distinct neighbourhood blocks, each with its own internal network of curving streets.
