Suicheng is the seat of Suining County in the north of Jiangsu, within the prefecture of Xuzhou. The land here is almost perfectly flat, part of the wide plain that stretches between the Yellow River's old courses and the Huai basin. On the map, the town looks like a dense rectangle of streets surrounded by a patchwork of fields, villages and straight irrigation channels.
Towns in this part of China tend to grow in clear, orderly blocks, and Suicheng follows that pattern. Main roads run roughly north to south and east to west, while newer districts spread outward with wider avenues and larger plots.
