Sumerpur lies in the Pali district of southern Rajasthan, on the banks of the Jawai River. Directly across the river stands the town of Sheoganj, and together they form a pair of settlements facing each other over the broad, mostly dry riverbed. From above, the Jawai is a wide pale band crossing the map, linked by bridges between the two towns.
Upstream lies the Jawai Dam, one of the largest reservoirs in western Rajasthan, which supplies water to the region. The surrounding country of granite hills and scrub has become known for its leopards, which live among the rocky outcrops close to villages. Sumerpur itself is a busy market town, with dense streets around its bazaar and roads leading to nearby districts.
