Historic downtown grid
The oldest part of the city is a compact grid of streets around the main commercial road, standing out clearly from the more curved layout of later neighbourhoods.

Sun Prairie Map Poster & Print
Sun Prairie is a growing city in Dane County, Wisconsin, on the northeastern edge of the Madison area. From above you see an older downtown built on a simple street grid, surrounded by rings of newer neighbourhoods with looping streets, cul-de-sacs and parks. Koshkonong Creek winds through the city, and major highways cross the edges, tying it to the state capital.
The city is known for two things in particular. It is the birthplace of the painter Georgia O'Keeffe, who was born on a farm near the town, and it holds an annual Groundhog Day celebration built around its resident forecaster, Jimmy the Groundhog. Both have become part of how Sun Prairie presents itself to visitors.
A Sun Prairie map poster shows the pattern of a Midwestern town that has grown steadily outward. The dense grid in the centre gives way to the softer curves of residential districts, and farm roads at the edges still follow the square survey lines of the surrounding countryside, a reminder of the prairie that gave the city its name.

Koshkonong Creek
The creek runs through Sun Prairie with green space along its course, adding a thin, winding line that cuts across the otherwise regular street pattern.
Survey-line countryside
Beyond the newest subdivisions, rural roads follow the straight mile-square grid of the Midwest, framing the city with long perpendicular lines on the map.
