Hillside housing estates
Newer residential areas sit on higher ground with looping streets and short dead-ends. They form compact, rounded clusters that stand out clearly against the open land around them.

El mapa
Tōin Map Poster & Print
Tōin is in the north of Mie Prefecture, a short distance inland from the industrial shore of Ise Bay. It belongs to Inabe District and sits on gently rising ground between the coastal cities and the mountains further west. From above it looks less like a single centre than a scatter of neighbourhoods separated by farmland and green slopes.
The pattern is typical of the countryside on the edge of the Nagoya region. Older hamlets follow small rivers and valley floors, while newer housing estates sit on higher ground with curving streets and cul-de-sacs. Between them lie rice paddies in narrow, regular plots, which print as a fine texture of parallel lines.
Tōin is not known for famous monuments, and that is part of its appeal on paper. A Tōin map poster is a portrait of ordinary Japanese town life: roads following the contours, schools and small shrines set into the grain, and fields filling the gaps between settlements. The balance of built and open ground changes every few blocks.

Rice paddy grid
Between the neighbourhoods, paddies are divided into small rectangular plots edged by paths and irrigation channels, giving large parts of the map a delicate, even texture.
Valley settlements
Older hamlets line the small river valleys, with houses strung along winding roads that follow the lie of the land rather than any planned grid.

Per què Tōin
Un mapa amb significat
This is a map for someone with a quiet attachment to a place, such as a family home, a first apartment or the town where grandparents lived. It works well in a calm room, where the soft rhythm of fields and streets reads almost like a textile.
Add a title or a personal line, a date and the coordinates, and choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white to Sand. The files come as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF in six sizes, including A3, A2 and 50×70 cm.
