Vialonga is a parish in the municipality of Vila Franca de Xira, on the northern edge of the Lisbon metropolitan area. It sits among rolling hills a short distance inland from the Tagus estuary, and its map reflects a place that changed from rural village to commuter suburb over a few decades.
From above, compact residential blocks and apartment clusters sit next to older streets that follow the contours of the hills. Major roads, including the A1 motorway that links Lisbon with the north of the country, pass close by, drawing strong straight lines through an otherwise irregular pattern. Pockets of farmland and open slopes remain between the built areas.
