West Scarborough sits in the inland part of Scarborough, a short drive south of Portland. From above, the map shows a loose pattern of residential loops and cul-de-sacs off a few through roads. Between them, stretches of woodland and open ground break the grid into irregular pieces. It reads less like a town centre and more like a patchwork of neighbourhoods tied together by longer connecting routes.
Farther toward the coast, the lines change character. Scarborough Marsh, the largest salt marsh in Maine, spreads its creeks and channels across the lowland.
