Worksop lies in north Nottinghamshire, at the northern edge of Sherwood Forest. On the map, the Chesterfield Canal and the River Ryton both pass through the town, running roughly east–west as two parallel lines of water. The historic centre sits between them and the railway, and residential streets spread out in curving estates on every side.
The town is often called the gateway to the Dukeries, the group of great estates that once belonged to the dukes of Newcastle, Portland and Norfolk. Clumber Park lies just to the southeast. In the town itself, Worksop Priory, with its twin towers and medieval gatehouse, marks the eastern end of the old centre.

At the eastern end of the old centre, the priory church and its gatehouse sit among open grounds. They form a quieter pocket in the street pattern.
Dukeries edge
To the south and east, the land opens into woodland and parkland, including Clumber Park. The map loosens into broad spaces and winding drives.
