Yegyi, also commonly written Yeji, lies in the Bono East region of Ghana on the shore of Volta Lake, one of the largest artificial lakes in the world. On a map water dominates. The town sits on the edge of a broad expanse of lake, and its streets run inland from the shore in a loose, irregular pattern.
The lake shapes the life of the town. Yegyi is an important fishing centre and a crossing point, with ferries linking it to the far shore and to other lake settlements. Landing sites and the waterfront appear on the map as the busiest part of the street network, while the edges of town open onto savanna and farmland.
