Yongxi is a town in the rolling country of western Chongqing, where low hills, small valleys and farmland make up most of the landscape. On a map the built-up area appears as a compact cluster, with streets that follow the ground rather than a rigid grid. Roads curve to find level routes, and the town thins out quickly into the surrounding fields.
Watercourses and ponds are common across this part of Sichuan Basin country, and they give the map small, irregular accents among the roads. The town's outline is shaped by the terrain. It spreads along the flatter ground and stops where the hills rise, so the poster shows a settlement adapted to its setting rather than imposed on it.
