Zheleznovodsk is one of the spa towns of the Caucasian Mineral Waters in Stavropol Krai. It sits at the foot of Mount Zheleznaya, a forested dome-shaped mountain that dominates the town. On the map, the mountain appears as a large green oval, circled by a ring of walking paths, with the resort's streets and sanatoriums spread around its base.
The town is known for its mineral springs, including the Slavyanovskaya and Smirnovskaya waters, and for its long history as a health resort. The resort park at the foot of the mountain contains pump rooms, galleries and old baths. Mount Beshtau, the highest peak in the area, rises nearby.
