Abū ‘Arīsh lies in the Jazan Region in the far south-west of Saudi Arabia, on the Tihama coastal plain a short distance inland from the Red Sea. The terrain is flat and low. On a map, the town spreads across it in a mix of older, tighter streets and newer, more regular districts laid out along wide roads.
The Jazan area is one of the more agricultural parts of the kingdom, and the land around Abū ‘Arīsh reflects that. Fields and wadi channels run across the plain. Toward the east the mountains of the Sarawat range rise in the distance, and on a wider map that edge shows as a change in the landscape.
