Ami Map Poster & Print
Ami is a town in southern Ibaraki Prefecture on the southwestern shore of Lake Kasumigaura, the second-largest lake in Japan. The land here is flat to gently rolling. It is a patchwork of rice paddies, fields and small woods, with residential districts that have grown as the Tokyo commuter belt spread outward.
The town is known to many travellers for its large outlet mall near an expressway interchange. There is also a history of naval aviation training on the lakeshore, remembered in a local museum. Between these, the town is largely quiet: farm roads, scattered hamlets and newer housing estates on the higher ground.
An Ami map poster brings these elements together. The broad, calm shape of the lake sits along one edge, a loose mesh of rural roads covers the paddies, and the expressway sweeps across. The lake gives the composition a large area of open space, while the fields and housing fill the rest with fine, varied texture.
