An Nuşayrāt is in the central Gaza Strip, on the Mediterranean coast south of Wadi Gaza. It developed around a refugee camp established after 1948, and over the decades temporary shelters were replaced by permanent buildings, producing the very dense urban pattern that came to characterise the area.
On a map the streets form a close-knit grid of narrow lanes and small blocks, with a few wider roads carrying traffic north and south. The coastal road runs along the shoreline, and the sea forms a clean, straight edge on the western side, in sharp contrast with the intricate texture of the neighbourhoods inland.
The area has suffered extensive destruction during the war that began in 2023.
