Anapu Map Poster & Print
Anapu lies in the state of Pará, in the Brazilian Amazon, on the Trans-Amazonian Highway. On a map, the town is a compact grid of streets along the highway, but the most striking feature lies around it: long straight side roads branching off at regular intervals, framing rectangular plots of cleared land between surviving forest.
That pattern, often called a fishbone, is typical of settlements opened along the highway from the 1970s onward. Anapu became internationally known through the work of Dorothy Stang, an American-born missionary who campaigned for small farmers and forest protection in the area and was killed near the town in 2005.
An Anapu map poster shows the Amazon frontier as it looks from above. The highway runs through as one long line, the town forms a small, dense block, and side roads extend outward in parallel rows. Rivers and forest fill the gaps. In black and white, it is a stark and thought-provoking portrait of a landscape in transition.
