The open pit
The quarry's benches show up as tightly packed contour-like lines, forming a huge oval of texture that is unlike anything in an ordinary city map.

关于地图
Asbest Map Poster & Print
Asbest lies on the eastern slope of the Middle Urals, northeast of Yekaterinburg, and its identity is written into its name. The town grew up around the Bazhenovskoye deposit of chrysotile, discovered in the late nineteenth century, and the mine that works it has become one of the largest open pits on the planet.
From above, that pit dominates everything. It forms a vast stepped hollow on the town's edge, larger than many of the residential districts beside it. The town itself is laid out in orderly Soviet blocks and straight avenues, with birch and pine forest filling the land beyond the last streets and small lakes and rivers scattered through the taiga.
An Asbest map poster is an unusual piece: part town plan, part portrait of an industrial landscape. The terraces of the quarry render as dense concentric lines, while the regular streets and quiet forest around them keep the composition balanced. It appeals to anyone interested in the geography of work and extraction.

Planned blocks
Residential areas follow the regular layout of a Soviet company town, with long straight streets, courtyard blocks and wide spaces between buildings.
Forest edge
Beyond the built-up area the map opens into Ural taiga, broken by tracks, rail spurs and scattered water, so the town reads as an island in the woods.
