关于地图
Balkanabat Map Poster & Print
Balkanabat is the administrative centre of Turkmenistan's Balkan Province, set in arid country east of the Caspian Sea. Seen from above, the town is a planned arrangement of broad avenues and regular blocks on flat ground, with the slopes of the Great Balkhan mountains rising to the north. At the edges the streets give way quickly to desert, so the built-up area has a crisp, well-defined outline.
The town grew around the oil industry, and from the 1930s, under Soviet rule, it was known as Nebit-Dag, a name meaning oil mountain. It took its present name in 1999, but oil and gas remain central to the town, and pipelines, rail lines and industrial sites extend across the surrounding plain.
That contrast between order and emptiness is what makes a Balkanabat map poster work. The grid of Soviet-era neighbourhoods reads clearly in fine lines, while the empty desert and the folded terrain toward the mountains leave generous open space around it. Railway and highway lines stretch away to the east and west, tying the town to the rest of the country.

Great Balkhan range
The mountains north of the town rise out of the plain, a reminder on the map of the rugged terrain that gives the province its name.
Edge of the desert
The built-up area ends abruptly where the streets meet open desert, producing a sharp outline and wide margins of empty space around the town.

为什么选 Balkanabat
一张有意义的地图
For people who worked in Turkmenistan's oil industry, or who grew up in Nebit-Dag before it was renamed, this map is a precise record of a place that few others know well. Its clean geometry also suits minimalist interiors.
You can set the title to Balkanabat, Nebit-Dag or anything else meaningful, add a subtitle and coordinates, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. A free 900 px watermarked preview lets you check the result first.
