Basuo Map Poster
Basuo is the urban centre of Dongfang on the western coast of Hainan Island in southern China. It faces the Beibu Gulf, and from above the town is defined by that shoreline: a long, gently curving coast with the harbour at one end and streets laid out in a fairly regular pattern that runs inland from the water.
This side of Hainan is drier and less visited than the resort coasts in the south, and Basuo has developed as a working port and industrial town. Its harbour serves the western part of the island, and the flat coastal land around the town is taken up by farmland, roads and newer development.
A Basuo map poster is essentially a portrait of a coastline. The sea occupies one side of the composition as a clean open space, the port's piers and basins break the edge, and the town's grid of streets fills the land behind, fading into the surrounding countryside of western Hainan.
