Bełchatów Map Poster & Print
Bełchatów is a town in central Poland whose modern shape comes largely from the lignite industry. From the 1970s it grew rapidly to house workers for the nearby mine and power station, and the map shows it: large blocks of housing estates arranged around green spaces, broad roads between them, and a smaller older centre at the heart.
The most striking feature lies just outside the town. The open-pit lignite mine to the south is enormous, a vast excavated area that, from above, is larger than the town itself. Next to it stands the Bełchatów Power Station, one of the largest coal-fired plants in Europe. On a wider map these industrial landscapes dominate the frame.
