Belford Roxo Map Poster & Print
Belford Roxo is one of the municipalities of the Baixada Fluminense, the flat lowland north of Rio de Janeiro. It became a separate municipality in 1990, after splitting off from Nova Iguaçu. From above, it is a continuous spread of residential streets with no single centre, filling the space between its larger neighbours.
The land here is low and flat, crossed by small rivers and drainage channels that run toward Guanabara Bay. Their winding lines are the main natural features on the map, cutting across blocks that are otherwise laid out in short, closely packed rows. Main roads run through in long, gentle curves and join the city to the rest of the metropolitan region.
A commuter rail branch from central Rio ends at Belford Roxo, and the neighbourhoods around the stations are among the densest parts of the city.
