The namesake river
The Braço do Norte river bends through town. Its curves decide where the streets and bridges go, and it forms the poster's central line.

关于地图
Braço do Norte Map Poster & Print
Braço do Norte lies in the south of Santa Catarina, in the green, hilly country inland from the Atlantic coast. The town takes its name from the Braço do Norte river, and the river still shapes it. The main streets follow the valley floor, and the urban area lengthens along the water instead of forming a simple circle.
The region was settled largely by European immigrants, especially German and Italian families, in the late nineteenth century. It remains agricultural, with a strong tradition of dairy and pig farming. On a map, that rural setting shows as winding roads that climb out of the valley toward farms on the surrounding hills.
A Braço do Norte map poster shows the interplay between river, slope and street. The centre is fairly dense, with bridges carrying roads across the water. Toward the edges, streets curve with the terrain and end in hillside lanes. It is a composition with real movement, shaped by the landscape rather than drawn with a ruler.

Valley-floor centre
The densest blocks sit on the level ground beside the river. They make a clear concentration of detail between the hills.
Roads into the hills
Winding roads leave the valley and climb toward farms on the slopes. They trace the rolling countryside of southern Santa Catarina.
