River confluence
The Burqin and Irtysh rivers come together near the town. Their joining channels are the most striking feature on the map and give the composition its movement.

关于地图
Burqin Map Poster & Print
Burqin lies in the Altay region of northern Xinjiang, near China's borders with Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia. On a map the town sits close to where the Burqin River joins the Irtysh. The rivers split into braided channels and wooded islands, and the town's regular streets stand out against that tangle of water and open land.
The Irtysh is the only major river in China that flows toward the Arctic Ocean, continuing through Kazakhstan and Russia to join the Ob. Burqin is best known as the gateway to Kanas Lake and the Altay mountains to the north, and much of its traffic comes from travellers heading there.
A Burqin map poster shows a place in a wide landscape, a planned town beside two rivers with steppe stretching around them. The braided channels provide the detail, and the straight streets provide the order. It is an unusual subject that looks particularly good in minimalist style.

Braided channels
Both rivers split around islands and sandbars, creating a web of fine, intertwined lines that set the natural landscape apart from the regular streets.
Planned town grid
The town itself is laid out in straight, wide streets in a regular pattern. It looks neat and geometric next to the untamed river system beside it.
