Chaksawari lies in the Mirpur district of Azad Kashmir, in rolling country between the Punjab plains and the higher hills to the north. On the map it shows as a tight knot of streets where several roads meet. The built-up area spreads outward along those roads rather than in any regular pattern, so the town's outline looks more like a branching shape than a block.
Ravines and seasonal streams break up the ground around the town, and the roads curve to follow them. Houses cluster on the higher ground and along the routes to neighbouring villages, with open patches of farmland and scrub in between. The map has an irregular, almost hand-drawn quality, far from the tidy grids of newer planned towns.
The wider Mirpur area is known for its close ties with Britain, where many families from the district settled over the past decades. Many households here still keep links with relatives in British cities.
