Changzhi Map Poster & Print
Changzhi lies in south-east Shanxi on the Shangdang Plateau, a high basin enclosed by the Taihang Mountains to the east and the Taiyue range to the west. The city sits on the basin floor, and its streets follow a largely regular grid of broad avenues and big blocks. Beyond the urban edge, the terrain grows more uneven and rises towards mountains in almost every direction.
The name Shangdang has a long history, and the region was important in ancient Chinese warfare and administration because of its height and position. In more recent times, Changzhi grew as an industrial centre, and coal and heavy industry shaped much of its twentieth-century expansion.
A Changzhi map poster shows a city that fills its basin in an orderly way. Main roads run straight across the flat ground, rail lines trace the industrial districts, and small rivers wind across the plain. At the edges, the street network thins and gives way to the folded terrain of the surrounding uplands.
