Daling River
The river sweeps along the side of the city in a broad curve, and bridges cross to the far bank. On the poster it is the strongest single line, and everything else takes its direction from it.

关于地图
Chaoyang Map Poster & Print
Chaoyang follows the course of the Daling River through the hill country of western Liaoning. From above, the city forms a long band on the valley floor. The river curves along its edge, and the main avenues run parallel to it. Side streets climb only a short way before the ground rises, so the built area stays narrow and clearly oriented.
It is one of the oldest cities in northeast China. Under the name Longcheng it served as a capital of several Yan states in the fourth and fifth centuries. Two brick pagodas, the North Pagoda and the South Pagoda, still mark its old centre. Palaeontologists also know the surrounding region well for its feathered dinosaur and early bird fossils.
A Chaoyang map poster shows the city as a set of parallel lines: the river, the embankment roads, the older grid near the pagodas and the newer districts reaching up and down the valley. In black and white the shape reads like a quick sketch of the geography. This is a city that has always had to fit between the water and the hills.

Two old pagodas
The North Pagoda and the South Pagoda stand in the historic centre. The tighter street pattern around them marks the oldest part of Chaoyang within the larger modern layout.
Valley limits
Hills close in on the city from both sides, so it stretches along the valley instead of spreading evenly. The result is an outline that is long, narrow and easy to recognise.

为什么选 Chaoyang
一张有意义的地图
Chaoyang suits someone with roots in Liaoning or an interest in the deep past of northeast China, from the Yan-era capitals to the fossil beds. The valley outline also simply looks good on a wall, because it is balanced and has a clear direction.
Add a title, a subtitle with a name or a date, and your own coordinates line. Then pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. You can download the HD files for $9 or order a matte print, with or without a wooden frame.
