关于地图
Chichicastenango Map Poster & Print
Chichicastenango sits in the highlands of El Quiché, on a ridge surrounded by steep ravines and pine-covered hills. On a map the town is compact and irregular, its streets following the uneven ground and climbing toward the central plaza. Beyond the centre, lanes break apart quickly into scattered hamlets that follow the ridges.
The market held in and around the plaza on Thursdays and Sundays is one of the best known in Guatemala. On one side stands the church of Santo Tomás, whose steps are used for K’iche’ Maya ritual with incense and candles; across from it is the chapel of El Calvario. It was in Chichicastenango that the Dominican friar Francisco Ximénez recorded the text of the Popol Vuh around 1700.
A Chichicastenango map poster reflects the town's hilltop setting, with streets bunched on the high ground and the land falling away around them. On a hill just outside town lies the shrine of Pascual Abaj, still used for ceremonies, and the surrounding terrain gives the print a strong sense of relief.

Ridge-top streets
Lanes follow the uneven ground of the ridge and bend around the terrain, producing an irregular, hand-drawn look quite unlike a colonial grid.
Ravines and hills
Steep valleys surround the town on several sides, leaving large empty areas that make the built-up centre stand out.
