The river corridor
The Chitral River runs the full length of the town. Almost every road runs alongside it, so the river works as the spine of the whole composition.

关于地图
Chitral Map Poster & Print
From above, Chitral is shaped mainly by its river. The town runs along the floor of a steep valley in the far north of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and its streets have little room to spread. Roads follow the water, lanes climb a short way up the lower slopes, and then the mountain terrain takes over and the drawing of streets stops.
The town has long been the seat of the former princely state of Chitral. Its fort and the Shahi Mosque stand close to the riverbank, and on clear days the high peak of Tirich Mir, the tallest summit of the Hindu Kush, closes off the view to the north. Chitral is also the usual starting point for journeys into the Kalash valleys.
A Chitral map poster shows how one river valley can set the shape of a whole town. The streets form a long, thin figure pulled north and south, bridges cross the river at a few points, and most of the paper stays empty around them. That empty space is where the mountains are.

Fort and mosque
The historic fort and the Shahi Mosque sit near the water at the centre of town. This is the old seat of the rulers of Chitral.
Valley edges
Streets thin out quickly as the ground rises. The sharp line where the built-up area gives way to steep slopes gives the map a clear frame.

为什么选 Chitral
一张有意义的地图
For people who have travelled the northern roads of Pakistan or grew up in the valley, Chitral is a place remembered for its setting. A print of its narrow street pattern brings back the river, the mountains and the long journey it takes to get there.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps a trekking date or a family name, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The poster is available as a $9 HD download or a printed poster.
