Diemen Map Poster & Print
Diemen sits directly east of Amsterdam, between the city and the IJmeer. From above, it is a mix of classic Dutch polder geometry and postwar planning. There are straight drainage canals, residential neighbourhoods laid out in rows and curves, and major infrastructure crossing it: the A1 and A10 motorways, several railway lines and the Amsterdam–Rhine Canal to the north.
Much of the land was once low-lying peat meadow. Large green spaces now show that past, including Diemerbos, a young woodland, and Diemerpark, laid out on a former waste site by the water. The town is closely tied to Amsterdam by metro, tram and train, and it has grown into a residential area for many people who work in the city.
A Diemen map poster is full of contrasts. Water and green run along the edges, and the housing areas are dense and ordered, with thick bands of road and rail threaded through. It is a very Dutch composition in which water, infrastructure and housing all fit together with precision.

These large green areas break up the built fabric. The woodland and the waterside park appear as calm open shapes at the town's edges.
Infrastructure bundle
Motorways and railway lines cross the town in broad bands. On the poster they create strong diagonal and horizontal strokes that structure the whole map.
