Diwek is a district in Jombang Regency, East Java, lying just south of the regency's main town. From above, the landscape is mostly flat and agricultural, with rice fields divided by irrigation channels and small roads. Villages cluster along these roads, so the built-up area appears as a series of linear settlements rather than a single compact centre.
The district is known across Indonesia as the home of Pesantren Tebuireng, a major Islamic boarding school founded by Hasyim Asy'ari, the founder of Nahdlatul Ulama. It sits in the Cukir area, close to a long-established sugar mill. Pilgrims and visitors come to Tebuireng throughout the year, which gives this otherwise rural district a wider significance.
