The river corridor
The town follows its river through the valley, so the water becomes the main axis of the print, with streets and embankments lined up along both banks.

关于地图
Donghe Map Poster & Print
Donghe is the main town of Wangcang County in the hills of northern Sichuan, close to the Shaanxi border. From above, the land sets the plan. Buildings fill the flat ground along the valley floor, and the contour lines rise steeply as soon as the streets run out. Settlements like this grow long and thin, following the water rather than a grid.
On paper the river is the spine of the composition. Roads run beside it on both banks, bridges stitch the two sides together at intervals, and short lanes climb a little way up the slopes before giving up. The result is a dense, elongated core with a quiet margin of hillside around it, which gives a poster a clear line and plenty of breathing room.
A Donghe map poster suits anyone with ties to this corner of Sichuan: people who grew up in the valley, relatives who moved to the larger cities, or travellers who passed through on the mountain roads. It is a modest place on the national map, but its shape is distinctive, and the black-and-white treatment brings out the pull between the river corridor and the hills.

Bridges across the valley
Crossings link the two halves of the town at regular intervals. At poster scale they read as short, even strokes laid across the curve of the river.
Hills at the edge
Northern Sichuan is mountain country. The built-up area stops abruptly where the slopes begin, which leaves open space around the dense centre.

为什么选 Donghe
一张有意义的地图
For families from Wangcang County, Donghe is often the town they left for Chengdu, Chongqing or further away. A plain map of the valley is a restrained way to keep it close, without the look of a souvenir.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, for example with a family name or a year. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper or Sand works well for a hill town like this.
