Ehingen lies on the Danube in Baden-Württemberg, southwest of Ulm, where the young river winds through a broad valley at the southern edge of the Swabian Jura. The historic town sits on higher ground above the floodplain. On a map, its dense cluster of streets stands out against the looser pattern of later suburbs and industrial areas spreading across the valley floor.
The town is known in the region for its brewing tradition, with several breweries still in operation, and church towers mark the old centre. It is also home to a large Liebherr plant that builds mobile cranes. The factory's grounds are one of the largest single shapes on the map, a reminder that Ehingen is a working town as well as a historic one.
