关于地图
Eyl Map Poster & Print
Eyl is an old coastal town in the Nugaal region of north-eastern Somalia, where the Nugaal valley meets the Indian Ocean. On a map the most striking element is the coastline itself, a long, fairly straight edge against the open sea, with the dry valley and rocky hills rising behind the settlement.
The town has a place in Somali history as a base of the Dervish movement led by Mohammed Abdullah Hassan in the early twentieth century. More recently it received international attention during the years of piracy off the Somali coast. On the map it appears as a small group of streets and tracks between the shore and the hills.
A Eyl map poster is mostly about land and water. The built-up area is modest, and the frame is filled by the ocean on one side and the bare, folded ground of the interior on the other. That makes a spare, graphic composition. The Noir and Sand styles suit the desert coast especially well.

Mouth of the Nugaal
Eyl sits where the wide, usually dry Nugaal valley reaches the sea, a route that has linked the coast to the interior for centuries.
Arid hills
Rocky high ground rises behind the town, and the few tracks crossing it appear as isolated lines in an otherwise empty landscape.

为什么选 Eyl
一张有意义的地图
For the Somali diaspora and for people who know the Puntland coast, a map of Eyl is a very personal image: a small town facing the sea, with a long history behind it. The minimal composition suits calm, uncluttered rooms.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are yours to edit, and five styles are available: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Download all six print sizes for $9, or check the free 900 px preview first before choosing a printed poster.
