Fabriano Map Poster & Print
Fabriano lies in an Apennine valley in the Marche, inland from the Adriatic. Its map shows a dense historic centre surrounded by newer districts that stretch along the valley floor. The Giano river passes close to the old town, and the surrounding hills keep the urban area long and narrow rather than round.
The town is known across Europe for papermaking, a craft practised here since the Middle Ages, and Fabriano is widely credited with refining techniques such as the watermark. The Paper and Watermark Museum explores that heritage. In 2013 the town joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for crafts and folk art.
At the heart of the old centre, Piazza del Comune brings together the Palazzo del Podestà and the Sturinalto fountain, with narrow streets leading away in every direction.
