Gelan Map Poster & Print
Gelan is a town in Changshou District of Chongqing, north of the Yangtze in the rolling hill country that covers much of the municipality. Unlike the flat grids of the plains, its streets bend and step with the terrain, and the town's shape is defined by the ridges and shallow valleys it has grown between.
Around the built-up centre, the map is full of fine detail: terraced fields shaped to the contours, farm lanes switching back up slopes, ponds and small reservoirs holding water in the valleys. New roads and residential blocks have extended the town in recent years, adding a few straighter lines to an otherwise organic pattern.
A Gelan map poster reflects the character of the eastern Sichuan Basin hills more than any single landmark. It is a map of curves rather than axes, where every street seems to negotiate with the ground.
