Ghormach lies in northwestern Afghanistan, in the borderland between Badghis and Faryab provinces, not far from Turkmenistan. It is a rural district centre in rolling, largely dry country. Most settlement clusters where water allows farming, along valley floors and seasonal streams.
On a map the town is small and modest. Its streets gather into a compact centre, with roads and tracks leading out along the valleys to surrounding villages. Beyond the built-up area, open ground dominates, and field boundaries follow the watercourses. The simplicity is what gives the map its strength: a few clear lines set against a wide, quiet landscape.
