Gongmen Map Poster & Print
Gongmen is a town in eastern Gansu, in the hill country where the Loess Plateau breaks into ridges and deep valleys. Terrain shapes almost everything here. Seen from above, the built-up area follows the lowest ground, stretching along a valley rather than spreading evenly, and the roads trace the same line as the watercourses they run beside.
The slopes around the town are covered in the terraced fields typical of the loess region. On a detailed map, they show up as fine, curving lines that follow the contours around each hillside. They give the landscape an almost topographic look, even when no elevation is drawn.
