Horb am Neckar lies in the upper Neckar valley in Baden-Württemberg, between the Black Forest and the Swabian Jura. The historic town climbs a steep hillside above the river, and the map shows its layout clearly: narrow lanes wind up the slope in tight curves, while the valley floor below holds the railway, main roads and newer districts spreading along the water.
Near the top of the old town, towers and remains of the fortifications mark the high ground, and the Stiftskirche stands above the roofs. The Neckar cuts a deep, curving valley through the landscape, and on the map it forms a strong line, with the town rising sharply on one side and wooded slopes on the other.
Beyond the valley, the town includes a string of villages spread over the surrounding plateaus, connected by roads that climb out of the river gorge.
