Iraquara Map Poster & Print
Iraquara lies in the heart of the Chapada Diamantina in the interior of Bahia, Brazil. The region is known for its limestone karst, and Iraquara in particular for its caves. Grutas such as Lapa Doce, Torrinha and the clear blue waters of Pratinha draw visitors to what is often described as the cave capital of the Chapada.
The town itself is small and simply laid out. A modest grid of streets surrounds the centre, and a few roads lead out across the plateau toward the caves and neighbouring towns. Around the urban area the landscape opens into dry scrub, farmland and the low ridges typical of the region.
