Regular street grid
Straight avenues cross at right angles across most of the town, producing a clean, almost diagrammatic pattern of rectangular blocks that looks especially sharp in the Blueprint style.

关于地图
Kara-Balta Map Poster & Print
Kara-Balta lies in the western part of Kyrgyzstan's Chuy Valley, roughly an hour's drive west of Bishkek. The town was planned largely in the twentieth century, and from above it shows: long straight streets run in parallel, crossed at regular intervals to form an orderly grid of blocks. Irrigation channels and tree lines follow the same geometry out into the surrounding fields.
South of town the land begins to rise toward the Kyrgyz Ala-Too range, and the main road to the south of the country leaves the valley here, heading for the high passes. The Kara-Balta river, which gives the town its name, descends from those mountains, so the map carries a sense of the terrain even where no contour lines are drawn.
The name is usually translated as black axe. The town has been an industrial centre for decades, best known for its large ore-processing plant. A Kara-Balta map poster strips this back to pure structure: the ruled grid, the railway line along the valley, and the roads fanning out toward the mountains and the capital.

Railway along the valley
The rail line runs east to west along the Chuy Valley and passes the town, a single long stroke that ties Kara-Balta to Bishkek on the map.
Road to the south
Leaving town toward the mountains, the highway to southern Kyrgyzstan begins its climb here, a line that starts in the grid and runs off the edge of the frame.

为什么选 Kara-Balta
一张有意义的地图
For anyone who grew up among these straight streets, the plan is a precise record of a specific place: the walk to school, the market, the station. It reads less like a souvenir and more like a personal address.
Add a title in your own wording, a subtitle with a date, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then take the $9 HD download in six print sizes or a printed poster from a partner near you.
