Kodoli is a town in the Kolhapur district of southern Maharashtra, and from above it looks like many settlements in this fertile belt. A dense centre of small plots and narrow lanes sits at a junction of country roads, and the built area loosens quickly into farmland. The fields around it form a patchwork of long, irregular parcels, divided by tracks and small watercourses.
This part of Maharashtra is known for sugarcane and for the cooperative sugar industry that grew up around it. On a map that shows up as open, cultivated land surrounding the town, with the road network set by farm access more than by any grid.
