Open-pit mines
Broad excavated areas appear as large blank or layered shapes within and around the city, and they are among the most distinctive features of the whole map.

关于地图
Kolwezi Map Poster & Print
Kolwezi is the capital of Lualaba Province and one of the main centres of the Central African Copperbelt. Few cities show their economy so directly from above. Large open-pit mines, tailings areas and reservoirs lie in and around the urban area, and residential districts fill the spaces between them in irregular patches.
The result is a map that looks unlike most cities. Instead of a single centre radiating outward, Kolwezi appears as a cluster of neighbourhoods separated by industrial land and connected by roads that bend around the excavations. Some areas follow straight, planned grids, while others have grown more informally along paths and tracks.
Copper and cobalt from this region supply industries around the world, and the city has grown quickly as mining has expanded. A Kolwezi map poster records that landscape in simple black lines and open space, showing how the ground itself has been reshaped around the people who live and work here.

Scattered neighbourhoods
Residential districts form separate clusters rather than one continuous fabric, each with its own street pattern and linked to the others by a few main roads.
Planned grids
Parts of the city follow regular, straight-lined blocks laid out as the mining town developed, contrasting clearly with the looser, informal streets around them.

为什么选 Kolwezi
一张有意义的地图
This poster is for people with ties to Kolwezi and the Copperbelt, including families, mining professionals and researchers. It shows a city defined by its ground, a subject rarely seen on a wall, which gives the map an unusual, almost abstract quality.
Use the title and subtitle for a name, a date of arrival or a project, and adjust the coordinates line as needed. The map comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
