Koregaon Map Poster & Print
Koregaon stands on the Bhima River northeast of Pune, in a landscape of low, open terrain and farmland. The river is the strongest element on the map. It loops broadly across the plain, and the town sits along its bank, with roads leading down to crossing points. Fields and scattered settlements fill the space away from the water.
The main road between Pune and Ahmednagar passes through the area, and much of the town's growth has followed it. Industrial units, warehouses and new housing line that route as Pune's economy expands outwards. On paper this gives the map two directions: the old riverside settlement and the newer, straighter development along the highway.
Koregaon is widely known for the 1818 battle fought here between East India Company forces and the Peshwa's army. A memorial pillar marks the site, and each year on 1 January it draws large gatherings of visitors.
