Kronach Map Poster & Print
Kronach, in Upper Franconia on the edge of the Frankenwald, grew where the rivers Haßlach, Kronach and Rodach come together. The map shows water arriving from several directions and joining below the old town, with the valleys spreading out as green corridors between wooded hills. Roads and railway follow these valleys, giving the town a natural, branching structure.
Above the confluence rises the walled upper town, a tight grid of lanes on a narrow ridge. Above that stands the Festung Rosenberg, a large fortress with bastioned walls whose star-like outline is one of the most distinctive shapes on the map. Its geometry contrasts sharply with the irregular medieval streets just below.
Kronach is also the birthplace of the painter Lucas Cranach the Elder, whose name derives from the town. A Kronach map poster brings together fortress, old town and rivers in a single composition. It gives a clear picture of how a medieval town used its terrain for defence and trade.
